I’m still refusing to wear hard pants so I’m no help.

I so identify with everything in your post! From taking forever to realize that skinny jeans were a thing, to preheating the oven when I've been "storing" something in there. I don't think the barrel pants will be around very long, but what do I know? Btw, I love reading your writing

Same girl, SAME! I am slow to hop on the "style" train, but I did end up buying some wide leg jeans. I do love them, but I really don't have the capacity to re-do my whole wardrobe for them! So, I have a couple of tops that work. I am really excited that boot cut is back - that makes me happy. I am hanging on to my beloved skinny jeans, because before we know it, they will be stylish again. :)

All of the cuts have their pros and cons (love a flare, and they always get wet in the winter!). I like trying new things, but my favorite jeans for the last few years have been a carpenter style that I’m not sure has ever been “trending”. I just like them! Long story long… keep all your jeans until they’re too worn or don’t fit anymore.

I’m REALLY short, so wide pants look ridiculous. Nope

Just invest in some platform shoes. They’ll look great until you roll your ankle and have to wear an orthopedic boot.

I think you need to be over 6' tall to wear barrel pants effectively without looking like you are sitting and standing at the same time. As far as a top....? Maybe a bodysuit or tube top? I've avoided that cut and just want it to go away :)

Yes the height would help. I’m 5’4”… so half squatting is how this kinda looks on me. 😂

I would feel badly for the Evereve lady, but she's clearly pushing a look that is unflattering while pretending it's HIGH FASHION, so no. Your choices all look good to me, but I'm not investing in jeans right now, and am determinedly still wearing skinny jeans.

The Evereve post killed me! And they did come back and acknowledge the hilarity of it. I am not even kidding that while was writing this post, I saw something proclaiming skinny jeans are BACK! So the real lesson is just wear what you like.

I spent my youth in jophurs. I still own a pair of two though I seldom get that dressed up. Give me my barn jeans, my office jeans, and something stretchy for Feldenkrais class and I’m all set.

I think a pair of barn jeans, office jeans, and something stretchy is really all you need!

Phew. I’ll just make sure I wash my hair and put on a nice top when I leave the farm. Oh, and a pair of not-muck-boots.

I just bought my first pair (after mooooonths of searching). And then I dropped $1K I don’t really have for the matching wardrobe. I say, we’re in our 40s and if our kids deserve $1000 in summer camps we deserve wardrobes that make us feel good.

Sarah, I could not agree more! The other day, I was thinking about how I couldn't possibly spend X amount of dollars on yoga classes for myself... and then realized just how much I spend a month on ukulele/gymnastics/swimming for my kids, and they barely appreciate it! Make it make sense!

I still haven't been able to find a pair that doesn't look ridiculous on me or that my husband wont ridicule me endlessly wearing. But once you find that closer fitting top, then shoes will be the problem. It never ends.

No no. Never. I'm 5'1" and kindly reference to as "zaftig." There is no way in hell I will ever put on barrel legged jeans.
